Fragments from Ecaden — Issue #4

A decorative dragon avatar.

Hello Reader,

May is slowly drawing to a close as summer lurks around the corner, and I’d like to say hello to the newcomers joining this dispatch.

Editing on the second book of Ecaden’s Crown is slowly nearing completion, and its cover is being worked on; I am excited to share a preview of it in future dispatches.

Book Fragments of the Church

Meanwhile, in the last few weeks since the previous dispatch has been delivered, these are some highlights of events happening in Ecaden's world:

  • Colst endures a punishment from the goddess Elnor that no man should survive
  • The ruler of Servala, the looming enemy nation, steps into the story, carrying both power—and a terrible obligation
  • Agapetus confronts a powerful magus that left Sullivan suffering—only to be met with laughter instead of remorse

And a small excerpt, written in ink:

Sullivan hung from his grip, watching the silver, brown, and white buildings of the city drift beneath them. More and more lights were flickering on in the darkness as people heard the heavy beats of the wings and stepped out to see what was happening.
For a moment, he swore he could see golden and silver eyes turned in their direction, staring at Agapetus with such envy, like they, too, desired this. At least that’s what Sullivan assumed from what he could make out, before they lifted well above the clouds. Sullivan had no idea where the priest had in mind to go, but he simply held on.
Agapetus, meanwhile, knew that the church would eventually learn of his sin, and attempt to kill him.

From the Archives

Earth magic is used often for various tasks, which also includes the creation and upkeep of the largest cities; walls are often created, remade, and fixed using magic to keep the buildings looking clean and pure, just as the goddess Elnor desires.

Cities that show wear and tear are often assumed to be of a poorer standing, or ravaged by the dying land.

Penned Recommendations

For those who enjoy older anime and dark worlds with a spark of hope in them, I offer Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind which I have been rewatching.

It is a comfort movie for me, and I often play the soundtrack in the background. I also think the Ohms are cute.

Beyond the Church Walls

Beyond Ecaden this time are three free stories, alongside a collection of M/M reads available through Kindle Unlimited for those looking to disappear into another book for a while longer.

The Mannequin Queen by K.N. Fitzwater

Aramis Feres thought he had escaped the horrors of his past—until a mechanical toy began searching for test subject 479241, the number still tattooed on his arm.

The Mark of Oblivion by Jasper Stone

In Valdris, maps do not record history—they decide it. When failed cartographer Petra Voss is sent to prove a vanished territory is empty, she instead discovers hidden families the Empire erased decades ago.

To expose the truth, Petra must draw a map the Guild will call illegal, and it will decide who is allowed to exist.

Until Next Time

I thank you once again for walking beside me through the world of Ecaden and for supporting fellow indie authors along the way. I look forward to sharing more fragments, stories, and news with you on June 15th.
